Exposure to commonly used lawn and garden pesticides is a significant health risk for people, particularly children and pregnant women, as well as pets and wildlife. Storm water runoff carries pesticides into surface waters where they can cause harm to aquatic organisms. They also migrate underground, contaminating aquifers and other groundwater sources.
Our EPA award-winning Grassroots Healthy Lawn Program ("GHLP") is a multi-faceted pesticide reduction program designed to stimulate the supply and demand for natural lawn care among landscapers and homeowners. The program includes consumer education, professional training programs and outreach and liaison with retailers and manufacturers.
Our professional training programs include live presentations with DEC or DEP credits, and DVD learning tools for private landscapers and municipal turf managers.
